Wildlife Wednesday

Daddy found this snake slithering around our backyard.

He had Mom take a picture of it so we could ID it.

It is a Brown Snake also known as a DeKays snake, it is nonpoisonous so Daddy took it down to the pond and released it. ~ATCAD

My Tabby Cat loves to catch little snakes!! Sometimes he brings them to Mom and they're wrapped all around his head. Mom saves him and the snakes and lets them go.

I wonder how many snakes we'll find when spring comes. Right now, it's too cold for snakes, I think. purrs

Those are also known as pencil snakes we think, for obvious reasons... Years and years ago when petcretary was about 18 or so...yikes, that was sooooooooo long ago,MOL! Anypaws she was on an outing with a younger gang, and a little boy picked up a snake like that and presented it right to her face. Um...he expected her to shriek or have a conniption, but she said wow, can I hold it for a while. That youngster's jaw fell almost to the ground...

Petcretary is not scared of snakes, and she finds them fascinating creatures. She has to rescue many of them from dog-guy...we do have Mattawan Rattlers in our state but they are shy and very rare in our area. One of the prettiest ones she has evfur seen is a blue racer. Iridescent blue!! Wow!
