Scylla & Charybdis Do the Name Meme (Flashback)

We are doing the Name Meme. We have to do it together because our names go together. We will explain later.

Here are the rules: Post a link to the kitty who tagged you (that would be Socks, but he got the idea from Angus Mhor and we saw where Dragonheart and Merlin had played today), and post the rules on your blog.

List your real name, how you got your real name, nicknames you like/tolerate, and nicknames you wish your humans would stop calling you.

Tag several kitties, and write a comment on their blog to let them know they have been tagged. We would like to tag anyone out there who hasn't done this meme yet-if you decide to do this meme, would you leave us a comment telling us so? We would love to know about your name!

Our real names are Scylla & Charybdis. When Mommy first brought us home we were foster kitties. But Mommy and the guys fell in love with us from the very first day, so we knew this was going to be our forever home. Mommy wanted to name us Katrina (Scylla) & Camille (Charybdis) cause she thinks they are pretty girl names and they are famous hurricanes, but Daddy said NO. He told Mommy she could keep us IF he got to name us. So she said OK as long as he didn't name us War (Charybdis) and Pestilence (Scylla) and she requested he pick out a girls name. So he looked in Greek mythology for some girl monsters and since Scylla & Charybdis go together and we look so much alike he thought that would be the perfect names for us. Especially since he felt like he was between a rock and a hard place when it was feeding time and he was the only one around. We were bottle feed when we first came to live here. Since the whole family liked it, Scylla & Charybdis became our names.

This is about the Scylla in Greek Mythology
Scylla was a nymph, daughter of Phorcys. The fisherman-turned-sea-god Glaucus fell madly in love with her, but she fled from him onto the land where he could not follow. Despair filled his heart. He went to the sorceress Circe to ask for a love potion to melt Scylla's heart. As he told his tale of love to Circe, she herself fell in love with him. She wooed him with her sweetest words and looks, but the sea-god would have none of her. Circe was furiously angry, but with Scylla and not with Glaucus. She prepared a vial of very powerful poison and poured it in the pool where Scylla bathed. As soon as the nymph entered the water she was transformed into a frightful monster with twelve feet and six heads, each with three rows of teeth. Below the waist her body was made up of hideous monsters, like dogs, who barked unceasingly. She stood there in utter misery, unable to move, loathing and destroying everything that came into her reach, a peril to all sailors who passed near her. Whenever a ship passed, each of her heads would seize one of the crew.

Scylla is also the name of a daughter of King Nisus of Megara.
Scylla could bark like a dog (according to some skulax, "young dog").

Our Scylla has a very LOUD MEOW, so we guess you could compare it to a dog barking. Scylla likes to think she is the beautiful nymph Scylla before Circe turned her into a monster.

This is about the Charybdis in Greek Mythology.
Charybdis was once a nymph-daughter of Poseidon and Gaia who flooded lands for her father's underwater kingdom until Zeus turned her into a monster and caused her to suck in and out water three times an day. She lived in a cave at one side of the Strait of Messina, opposite the monster Scylla, the two of them forming a dangerous threat to passing ships.

Charybdis sucked down her bottle so the name suited her to a tee.

Here are Scylla's nicknames

  • Winsome Wednesday

There is a huge frog in Grandpa's pond.

He has turtles in their too. Grant likes to feed bread to the fish but sometimes other things come to eat it.

This is the top picture when Mom added more color. We sort of like the way it looks like a modern painting.

And now for the winsome portion of the post. Mom insisted on taking a picture with me. Don't worry about Mom's fashion accessory she went for her regularly scheduled mammogram.

As you can see I really didn't want to take pictures with her.

Scylla was outside checking on the plants.

She reported the Crinum looks gorgeous with it's blooms open.  Remember no touching it or nibbling on it.

    (Selfie) Scylla Sunday

Well I tried to take a selfie but Rosie photo bombed me. ~Fenris

Chimera and Yang went for a ussie.

Yin just yelled at us when we asked about doing a selfie, apparently she was ready for bed.

And Scylla was busy getting a drink before retiring for the night.

She likes to sleep in the cat carrier these day. ~ATCAD

Mom can take the most unflattering pictures.

Oh well I am having a good time. I am not going to worry about how I look.

Scylla and I are enjoying hanging out on the Jungle Gym.

We have been having really nice weather lately. ~Miss Yin & Scylla reporting for ATCAD

    Meowy Monday

Mom had a time getting this picture to come out right. Chimera is sitting in the window in bright sunlight and Yin is in the shade. Any pro tips from our photographer friends would be appreciated. Mom said she needed to make Yin brighter and Chimera darker, this was a compromise it's light enough you can see Yin has eyes but it's dark enough that Chimera didn't disappear altogether. This is something you seldom see all four of us together. Chimera was feeling social but as you can see she is still a good distance from the rest of us. But at least she is in the same room we are. Chimera is the type of cat that gives people the idea we are solitary creatures. The rest of us like being together in fact Scylla and Yang are often joined at the hip, as they don't like being alone.

Mom says thank you for all your kind words about Myst, but Grandpa is the one who deserves the credit for taking care of her. And for those of you who are worried about her safety, she is very safe and snug in the shed. The feeding station is right across from Lady O's pen and she is very cat friendly and will warn them if anything that doesn't belong approaches, and the shed is full of tons of things they can get under or on to escape. Grandpa feeds them twice a day once in the morning and once in the evening. They get feed first, well their bowls are right by where the food is stored. Then he feeds Lady O and the chickens and yesterday he saw O'Malley when he feed them breakfast. Mom suspects Marvel may have still been asleep or maybe just waiting for Grandpa to leave. We think they probably all sleep in the shed at night. There are lots of good hiding places in there, Mom even lost Grandpa in there one day, and he wasn't even trying to hide from her.  ~Miss Yin, Scylla, Yang & Chimera reporting for ATCAD

Caturday Art with Chimera, Scylla & Yang

This was the Journal Challenge you had to use the word Daydreaming on your page.

Avatar Challenge and the theme was apples, Mom was able to sneak a butterfly in there albeit one made out of leaves. In case you are wondering the middle circle is Mom's avatar.

    Bricolage Challenge.

Color Challenge. Scylla and Yang helped with this one.

Zoo challenge for some reason Benthai picked Cows, really you would have thought he might pick house cats or dogs. Mom is actually pretty fond of cattle but she prefers steers and bulls. Apparently Momma cows get ticked off when you try to pet their calves. Although I am not sure why Mom wanted to pet a calf any way.

And here I am. I am helping out with the mask challenge.

Progressive Challenge. Mom said this was the hardest one she has done in awhile.

And the Scraplift Challenge ~Thanks for coming by to visit us, Chimera reporting for ATCAD

What do you mean I don't belong on the table??? Your shirt and book bag don't belong on the table either. And FYI I am not on the table I am on your shirt and book bag. ~Chimera

I am the office cat. It is my job to see that ATCAD is published. Mom says I am a decent office manager, except when I dangle over the keyboard and swat her as she types.

    Scylla Sunday

I am the official desk cat. Sometimes Yin and Yang try to usurp my position.

It's very rude of them, there is only room for one cat up here.

Mainly due to all Mom's clutter.

Since today is Sunday I will snap a quick selfie. Hmm I don't like this one.

This is better. Brian, I hope you like my selfie.

PeeS: Tomorrow September 5th is Yin & Yang's gotcha day.

PeeSS: The answer to yesterday's question was Yang.

    Mancat Monday Hosted by Yang

Mom, we are sleeping. You can't make up the bed.

What do you mean we sleep all day, it's barely noon. ~Yang, reporting for ATCAD (with Scylla)

    Talking Tuesday

I haven't been in the backyard in awhile. It's really nice out here. I need to remember to get Mom to throw me out on the back porch more often.

    Feline Friday ~The Girls

It is very important to work out. I hit the treadmill almost everyday.

You have to be careful getting on and off though.

I think Mom's comment that my exercise routine doesn't seem to be helping my weight loss is very rude.

At least I get on the treadmill. Mom never does.

It helps to have an exercise buddy.

Scylla & Mom prefer Yoga and Belly Dancing to walking on the treadmill. Me and Dad do the treadmill.

And Chimera doesn't exercise at all.

In fact I don't think she has ever been in the exercise room. I wonder where she is. ~Yin reporting for ATCAD
