Tristan & Isolde

I watched the DVD last night and enjoyed it a great deal. This version has a somewhat "happy" ending. King Marke is a decent loving man who is willing to let Tristan and Isolde go, so they can live happily ever after. Tristan chooses to stand by King Marke's side instead of fleeing with Isolde and saves Marke's kingdom.

Of course we have villains there is Wictred, who plots to expose the lovers to King Marke and thus overthrow the kingdom. He uses Morholt's (King Marke's nephew) jealousy to gain his help, but in the end Morholt does try to stop him.

Isolde doesn't fair as well. First off she lied to Tristan about her name. If she hadn't the whole sorry affair could have been avoided, then she continued to pursue Tristan even when he tried to end the affair. I hope in the end she came to realize what a truly remarkable man King Marke was.
