A woman was charged in the death of her stepsister and another toddler after they drowned as she slept off a night of drinking, police said.
Brittany N. Steward, 19, was arrested Tuesday on charges including involuntary manslaughter. A preliminary hearing was tentatively scheduled for Monday.
This sounds like a tragic accident not involuntary manslaughter. Please An 85-year-old woman whose car plowed through an elementary school cafeteria, killing a boy and injuring two other students, won't face criminal charges, a prosecutor said, but a teen who fell asleep will?
And what about the parents of the children involved? If Brittany Steward was drunk (as the article implies) then why on earth did the children's parents leave them with her. It would seem that the parents who left their children in her care would be as much to blame. I mean honestly if you leave your children in someones care that you know is incapacitated and something happens then you are at least partly responsible.

It was no accident. She knew she had to babysit the next day, but chose to stay out all night and drink. She had no regard for the fact that she would not be able to function the next day. She did not do her job and as a result they died! I also want to add that the very night of their deaths she went dancing at a night club and various other bars looking for the people at the party the night before. She was looking for them in the hope that she could get them to lie for her. This has been her conduct since the day the children died. One year later, on the anniversary of the girls' death, while her mother and family and the other girl's family are agonizing in grief, Brittany shows her remorse and consideration of all those affected by publishing nude photos on the mocospace website. Her alias was brittybaby21.
Brittany's behavior aside. What decent parent would leave their child with someone who was incapable of caring for them because she was hung over?
Brittany was 19 why was she suppose to exhibit more common sense then the adult or adults who left these children in her care?
And why let the 85 year old woman off scott free? I am sure his parents are mourning his death and all they are guilty of is sending him to school. They had no way of knowing someone who apparently shouldn't have been driving a car was going to plow through an elementary school cafeteria.
