An elderly woman drove a car through the glass front of a restaurant in this Chicago suburb Thursday, sending nine people to hospitals, police said.
The 94-year-old driver hit a parked vehicle before accelerating into the lobby of the Panera Bread restaurant around 1 p.m., striking eight people who ranged in age from 13 to 47 years old, said Wilmette Deputy Police Chief Brian King.
Why isn't there the same outcry to get them off the road when an elderly driver has an accident that there is when a teen has an accident? Just like there are some good elderly drivers there are good teen drivers. We should not discriminate against drivers based on their age.

I got hit head-on by an 85 yr old woman coming home from church on Christmas Eve back in '03. She lost control of her vehicle and swerved into my lane. There was no time for me to react and my car was totaled. Fortunately, neither of us were going very fast and I was wearing my seat belt. I got bruised by the air bag but was not otherwise hurt, thank goodness!
We have all kinds of restrictions on "junior" operators, such as allowing them only to drive during the day. Why can't there be similar restrictions on the oldest drivers, such as those over the age of 80?
