Law and order, in the form of two new security resource officers, is coming to George County schools this year.
In addition to patrolling the school campuses, maintaining order when fights between students break out and teaching classes on safety and drug abuse topics, the officers are to serve as counselors and confidants for students dealing with a wide variety of problems.
The call for school resource officers came from parents that packed the meeting room at a school board meeting early this year. Those parents complained about problem older students at the middle school attacking other youngsters. Some of the parents brought photos of their children, who in some cases were taken to the hospital for treatment.
