Mr Rosemond, you are extremely off base in your article on uniforms. The parents who are opposed to mandatory public school uniforms are the parents who always made sure there children were dressed in compliance with the dress codes at their schools (Dress codes by the way that were never enforced).
Forcing parents to spend their hard earned money on clothing they do not like in order for their children to get a public school education is WRONG!!!!!!!What makes a solid white/navy polo superior to a green polo? What makes a solid color polo superior to a striped/ plaid one? Nothing and I refuse to let some snobby parents dictate what colors my children can wear.
You site examples of a police officer and a bank employee. The police officer chooses to be a police officer and his employer provides the uniform (public schools on the other hand do not provide uniforms for their students) as for the bank employee, she is not required to wear a uniform and is allowed to wear any color she likes, she just isn't allowed to wear mini skirts and stiletto heels, this is a dress code. Those parents opposed to mandatory public school uniforms support dress codes.
As you stated there is no research to back up the pro uniform supporters claims. Therefore an opt-out should be provided to all parents who do not wish their children to be forced to dress like clones in order to receive a public school education. These children and their parents would abide by a dress code, dressing in approbriate school attire in a variety of colors and styles.
