Why Homeschool: Benjamin Franklin on one of the first public libraries in America
When I was 15 or so we went to a very rural area where my Grandmother used to live when she was a little girl. A elderly man recognized her brother (my Great-Uncle) and proceeded to tell them how their Father (who died when they were very young) was always buying books and how he would sit on his porch in the evenings and read to his neighbors (who were illiterate). He also wrote letters for them and read letters to them. Also back then many books were printed in installments in newspapers.
