I have to agree with Lord Epa, it's very hard to care about Hawthorne's characters. As a woman I find it despicable that Reverend Mr. Dimmesdale abandoned his daughter and allowed Hester Prynne to suffer public humiliation alone for 7 years, for an act they both committed.
