The Iraq Moratorium won’t be just a one-time remonstrance. It will be repeated on subsequent third Fridays because we know that, if it is to be effective, the antiwar movement must do what it has failed to do so far, expand an activist opposition from among the millions of Americans who want the troops to come home. From an effective, locally organized, nationally coordinated opposition can emerge not just the impetus to withdraw the troops but to reshape U.S. foreign policy into something worthy of the post-Cold War, post-September 11 world, something worthy of American ideals as expressed by two generals in their farewell speeches as president: Washington and Eisenhower.
