SS doesn't have time to read fiction these days but surprisingly she has read this collection of lesser known stories of Alcott and enjoyed it.
Mommy enjoyed reading them a whole bunch. She didn't even know they existed until recently. It took her forever to read them though, she says she has to much housework to do.

SS can read quite fast if she wants to, this only applies to English books. Foreign language books are a different story altogether.
Mommy would love to be able to read books in foreign languages period. Alas she is limited to English. Once upon a time she could read very fast. Then she hit 40 and the words seem so small. She said she needs something called bifocals. She likes the computer cause she can make things real BIG.

SS is shortsighted and she hopes that when she gets older the problem would be offset and she would not need glasses for anything anymore. Wonder if it works that way. It kinda worked for her eldest brother for a while, then he found that he needed reading glasses but his shortsightedness never bothered him any more.
Mommy is sad to report that it doesn't always work. She has had to wear glasses since 4th grade for short sightedness. She mostly wears contacts now. She too was hoping as she aged her vision would be corrected. Now she not only has to wear her contacts so she can see to drive/watch TV/ bumble around the house. She has to have reading glasses to read/thread needles, and put her jewelry on.
She is most annoyed, but she is very short sighted.
Oh and she keeps losing her reading glasses. We don't know what we are going to do with her.
What a pity - SS thought there had to be some advantages in getting older, like getting rid of the glasses. So why not just wear bifocals or those with graduating lenses, instead of contact lenses and glasses. That way, you are sure not to lose them. SS can't wear contact lenses because they have given her corneal ulcers when she tried them years ago. Now she is too lazy. Besides it is too dusty on field trips and the condition are too unhygienic when she has to camp.
They actually have bifocal contacts. Mommy is probably going to try them the next time she goes for an eye exam.
Last time she went the doctor said her eyes weren't bad enough for bifocals and to just try the reading glasses, but they have gotten worse. Although Daddy is the really funny one, he can't read the menu anymore unless he takes his reading glasses with him to restaurants and he is always forgetting them. Mommy has to read the menu for them.
Mommy can sympathize with the dust. She has to wear sunglasses when it's windy to keep dust and junk out of her eyes.
Hahaha, SS's brother has a pair of reading glasses (those el cheapo ones) in various strategic locations in the house and in the cars. Like your daddy he still manages to forget to take it with him to the restaurants. These days, his wife keeps another pair in her handbag for him rather than having to read the menu out!
The parents have the el cheapo reading glasses that they picked up at Wal-Mart. Mommy & Daddy both have the same prescription in reading glasses, so they often pick each others up by mistake. So IF Mommy had her reading glasses with her she could just let Daddy borrow them. She usually doesn't take her handbag when she is with Daddy. He fusses at her about it, but she is afraid of forgetting it somewhere. She is very absent minded.
She can still read most things OK without her reading glasses as long as the light is good. Which is probably why she can't find them when she needs them.
Your mommy is lucky not to have to take her handbag around. SS has this tote bag, which is far less elegant than a handbag, that she carries around everyday with practically everything she needs in there, including the laptop sometimes. You guessed it, it's black with a white strip at the side, to go with whatever she happens to be wearing at the time. She would love not to have to carry her handbag or wear a watch.
Mommy says it is a relief not to have to drag it around.
While her handbag isn't as large as SS's. She couldn't get a computer in there (Daddy and eldest human brother have one of those), she can get lots of stuff in there including books (occasionally our toys find there way in there). Mommy has to carry it around when Daddy isn't around, but she isn't as worried about forgetting it then cause she has to have her keys to drive.
She actually did leave it at the Cracker Barrel one time when the family was on vacation. A nice waitress found it and saved it for her. Daddy had to turn around and go back and get it, cause all the keys (he had Mommy carrying around his keys) except the key to the rental car was in there.
Mommy said losing your purse is very SCARY!!!
