Only 4% of American have to wait more than six months for non-elective surgeries, while 14-15% of Canadian and Britons do.
I don't know about you but I wouldn't want to wait more than six months for a surgery I needed. I actually only had a few days wait time for my surgery. In fact I was asked when I wanted to have it. I choose to wait until after the holidays. When I called to set up the appointment I was given a day only a few days different then the day I asked for.

I get A-level care now, it's unfair to expect me to settle for anything less. I really don't think a system that provides substandard care for everyone is an improvement on a system that is capable of providing A-level care. Maybe the concept of universal health care needs to be shelved until we can deliver A-lever care to all, instead of expecting some of us to settle for substandard care when we have been getting A-level care.
One of the things I would like to see is some sort of universal pet care, so that everyone could provide the veterinarian care their pets need. At a minimum free/low cost spay/neuter programs would be a huge help in cutting down on unwanted kittens and puppies. But if we could also make sure that all pets could get the vaccinations and health care they need wouldn't it be nice. Now at least you can buy pet insurance; but so far I haven't found any pet insurance that covers pre-existing conditions. Because Charybdis' heart problem is considered a birth defect it wouldn't be covered. I am hoping it doesn't cause her any problems. She seems to be doing OK and the only advice the veterinarian school could give was to keep and eye on it as they didn't know what it was or how to fix it.
Does anyone know if Canada/any country for that matter has any sort of universal pet care?

Jan is against national health care in the US. Too many are coming to the US from Canada to get the care they have to wait too long for there. Someone with a serious health problem needs help now and they shouldn't have to die while waiting. Of course, we have health care providers to kill off Americans with serious health problems. There just isn't an easy way to cover everyone or every pet, is there? Too bad. Everyone and every pet deserves good health care.
Now that Percy has typed all this, we need a nap.

I suppose one of the biggest reasons I am against it, is the fact the government doesn't seem able to manage anything correctly.
I am surprised so many homeschoolers are for it. I mean they freely admit that the government schools are not educating children and they would NEVER leave their child's education up to the government, but they want them to take over their health care????
I also have friends who depend on the VA or Medicare/Medicaid for their health care and they will tell you these government programs have tons of problems.
I think we better stick with what we have until someone comes up with some solutions.
