We are enraged at this heartless blogger

We all have tears in our eyes after reading Podunk Wisconsinites and the Feral Cat.

In April 2005, my fine state supported a proposal to make feral cats an unprotected species, a classification that would allow them to be hunted and killed. Despite the fact that 51 of 72 counties in the state voted in favor of the proposal, Gov. Jim Doyle dampened our kitty killing spirits by claiming it was making Wisconsin a “laughingstock”.

Thank goodness for Gov. Jim. Doyle. We really don't care what his reasons were as long as he stopped mean people from killing cats. We do sympathize with the blogger being tired of cat poop in her garden, but there are better solutions then the killing of cats. And contrary to what this blogger thinks the Humane Society’s answer of Trap-Neuter-Release does work given time.

We are horrified to learn that people are allowed to shoot cats in South Dakota and Minnesota. We are going to try to find out how we can prevent the killing of cats in these two states, if any of you have any ideas about how we can help the poor cats in these states please let us know.

I am very angry and sad, too. Humans created the feral cat population problem, and need to work towards a humane solution (T-N-R programs).

We do so wish every cat and dog had a loving home.

You know the more we thought about what the lady wrote the angrier we got. So the cats pooped in her garden and killed birds for food. If the cats were gone the birds would poop in her garden and eat the vegetables in her garden and she would be wanting them killed too.

yeah, this was right around when mum adopted me. She thought it was stupid and thankfully it never became legal to kill feral cats.

Hi Derby, we think "Paws for Peace" is a pawsome idea.

We are so glad that it didn't become legal to kill feral cats. We wish there was some way we could help them. ~Socks, S & C

It is so sad. We wish we could adopt more cats and some doggies. If we ever get a fenced in yard we are going to give a doggie that needs a home one. ~Socks, Scylla & Charybdis

Shooting cats is not the way to go. And there are those who can't tell a feral from a pet, or so they say. It's a good excuse to kill the neighbor's cats.

When will humans learn?

In my defense, and as I DID write, I love cats. I have two cats, one a stray I've had for 15 years and one a wild kitty we tamed, neutered and now enjoy hearing her loud purr for over six years. I never said I would kill a cat. And I did say in my comments that I believed TNR to be the best solution, just not an immediate one. AND I wholeheartedly agree that most, if not all, of our environmental issues are created by humans.

I write with a tongue-in-cheek and sarcastic tone which was quite misinterpreted. I was "rethinking" the issue, examining both sides, and pondering a property owner's right to eradicate a wild cat.

I personally could not kill a cat (or a pooping bird) and to call me "heartless" is to obviously not know who I am.

I am sorry if I have struck a nerve. I am not an animal rights activist but I AM an animal lover and I do support their causes. I'm just not completely convinced on the feral cat issue. But that does not mean I am TOTALLY in support of their eradication.

peace to you and your kitties
