A large white heron, the Great Egret is found across much of the world, from southern Canada southward to Argentina, and in Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia. It's the largest egret in the Old World, and thus has garnered the name Great White Egret. But in the Americas, the white form of the Great Blue Heron is larger and warrants that name. In the United States, the Great Egret used to be called the American Egret but that was hardly appropriate, since the species range extends beyond America and indeed farther than other herons.
Cool Facts
- The Great Egret is the symbol of the National Audubon Society, one of the oldest environmental organizations in North America. Audubon was founded to protect birds from being killed for their feathers.
- Not all young that hatch survive the nestling period. Aggression among nestlings is common and large chicks frequently kill their smaller siblings.
- The longevity record for a wild Great Egret is nearly 23 years.

That is a gowgeous biwd..Mommi says it weminds hew of stowks in Hungawy, but it's pwobably an egwet..I only know those watew lillies and youw biwd look bootiful

We like the water lillies too, unfortunately we have too many of them. We need to figure out a way to get some of them out of the pond. Sometimes you can't even see the water. So I guess it's true; you can have too much of a good thing. ~Socks, Scylla & Charybdis

Well we see why you get them confused now Daisy, they seem to be the same thing.
Beans are very confusing with the way they name things.
We used to see them around the lake in Florida! We see them once in a while at the Swamp in Georgia. They are quite large!
We used to see a Blue Heron at the pond. We haven't seen him this year. Doesn't mean he isn't there. The only reason we saw the Great Egret (which was hiding in the tall grass) is Mommy was weeding around the fetter bush and fell in the pond and scared it so it flew to the other side of the pond. We are not sure who was scared more. Mommy are the Great Egret.
