Over half the animals at HSSM were brought in by their owners, officials said. The reality of the situation isn't left ambiguous to those persons.
"We try to make it painfully clear that chances are better than not that your animal is going to be put to death," Staton said. "These people know that. They are making a conscious decision to do this."
I just don't understand how anyone could take their pet to a kill shelter.

My Mommie volunteers at a no-kill cat shelter, and it is still heart-wrenching to see the fear and confusion in the eyes of the cats that are surrendered.
It makes us very sad that every cat and dog doesn't have a loving forever home. We are very proud of your Mommy for volunteering at a no-kill shelter. We do so wish there were some no kill shelters around our area. ~Socks, Scylla & Charybdis
Some people do not have a heart - that's all I can say. SS's eyes leak whenever she hears stories like this.
we will have to have a plumber oncall tomorrow as she is going to a kitty funeral. It is a tuxi kitty and everyone going is waering black and white in deference.

Our Mom hates stories like this, because they are true! It's just so horrible that people don't take their responsibilities or commitment to thier pets seriously. Mom says it tells her something about a person's character. Not good...
Not good at all. I don't understand how anyone could sentence their pet to death. Which they are doing when they leave it at a kill shelter.
Surely they could take the time to re-home it if they can't keep it for some reason.
There is nothing crueler than to do this to a precious pet who has done nothing but give you love. :(
