In these hard economic times, state and local officials should not try to balance budgets by adding to the suffering of animals. That’s just common sense. But sometimes common sense isn’t enough. For instance, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, obviously desperate to scrounge up new revenue to eat away at a massive budget shortfall, has advanced the awful idea of placing a tax on veterinary services.
Needless to say I think taxing veterinary services is a horrible idea. I know many people struggle to take their beloved pets to the veterinarian already. Especially those who have pets with an ongoing illness like Moki (if you want to help defray Moki's veterinary expenses click here to go to his blog), to tax health care for pets is just heartless. But rest easy if you want a face lift Governor Schwarzenegger isn't planning to tax cosmetic surgery. What a sick world when someones looks are more important then a pets health.

Ugh that's awful. There's already sales tax on vet services, and they want more tax? Bleh
Wow! That's terrible and vet fees are getting more and more expensive. Unfortunately, this could keep some people from getting their pets the help they need.
I so agree with you. Most of us really have a hard time paying vet bills already and may have to go without some things in order to do so. Any higher fees would certainly deter some much needed help for pets.
We were shocked when we moved to Georgia to find that they even tax food here!
They tax food in Mississippi too. There was a big controversy because we have the lowest tax on cancer sticks and one of the highest (7%) taxes on groceries and our BAD governor will not raise the tax on cancer stick and lower/eliminate the tax on food.
Yuck, yuck,yuck.
