Alasandra's Place: Dog Murdered for Defending His Home

Alasandra's Place: Dog Murdered for Defending His Home:
"The officer was at the home investigating a complaint of children not attending school and was trying to find a parent when he went to the door of the house, Wallace said.

While investigating, Wallace said, the officer was told a 2-year-old was possibly inside the home unattended. When the officer opened the door to go inside, the dog bit him.

The officer then fired his weapon and killed the dog, Wallace said. It turned out there was not an unattended child inside the home.

Don't POLICE OFFICERS have to knock and wait for someone to open the door? What right did this Police Officer have to invade someones home and kill their pet????????"

Seriously, he just walked in - what an idiot. It is awful he shot that poor dog, but the officer is stupid because really he could have had much worse happen. Why wouldn't he check first, and why would he shoot the dog that was just doing its job and protecting the house.

Sadly this has happened before down here. Police had a warrant but went to THE WRONG ADDRESS. One police officer went to the front door and the other jumped over a wood fence into the back yard. When the dog who lived there charged him he shot and killed it.

That just makes me so sad...

This is terrible - both of the cases. What right has anybody, police included, to barge into someone's house, draw firearms and shoot a pet? The police should have to account for their action in entering and using a firearm. In the latter case, a public apology and compensation for the loss are definitely in order.

Is there no one who will take up the cause?

The Prince George's County sheriff's office has concluded that deputies did nothing wrong when they charged into the home of the mayor of Berwyn Heights during a drug investigation last summer and fatally shot his family's two dogs...

Law enforcement officials have since acknowledged that Calvo and his wife, Trinity Tomsic, were victims of a smuggling scheme that used a FedEx driver to ship drugs. They said the couple knew nothing about the box. County police, who were leading the drug investigation, have said they were unaware it was the mayor's house.

One dog was shot four times by the front door. Calvo has said his younger dog was running away from officers when it was shot twice, including once in a hind leg.

Wow, if they had known it was the mayor's house they would have acted differently. What about us regular folks? That means it's OK?

This has to stop...

I remember reading about the mayor's house. It was heartbreaking and why would one feel the need to shoot a dog that is running away from you. That is just mean and vicious. One would hope the mayor would be able to do something about these jerks who think it is OK to kill family pets just because they are in law enforcement.

The family whose pet was killed in their well fenced backyard got a lot of sympathy, and people were outraged by the policeman's actions but I am not sure if anything has changed with the police. They are to fast to use their guns and tsars. Not long after shooting the dog they tsared a person on his own property after he reported a break in because he was "over emotional".
