Udate on Brandi & Gigi

Things are not looking good for Brandi or Gigi.

Both lost their $500 appeals before special magistrate Dahlia Walker-Huntington, a private attorney who serves as the county's animal court judge.

Tom Austin, Gigi's owner, and Lon Lipsky, Brandie's owner, have filed civil suits in Broward circuit court challenging the ordinance and county's procedures.

Gigi and Brandie's executions have been stayed pending the civil suits.

Last week, Broward circuit judge Eileen O'Connor granted an emergency motion allowing Brandie to move from the county's dangerous dog kennel to a Sunrise veterinary clinic.
Gigi remains at the county kennel near the airport, but owner Austin, an attorney, said he will file a motion to move her to a private vet kennel this week. His dog has been held since the May 1 run-in with a Yorkie named Bella.
We are purring they win the civil suits.

The mayor has unfairly refused to meet with Brandi's owners and at the time of the rally was meeting with Jack's owners.
While protesters were holding signs downstairs, Mayor Keechl was upstairs with the owners of Jack, the poodle who was killed in the incident. Susie Salameh and her 13-year-old daughter Niki were emotional, as they held pictures of the toy poodle.

The Mayor admits he hasn't spoken with the Lipskys but he wants to remind the public that under the ordinance, a dog is not deemed dangerous if it is provoked. He requested that his staff review Brandie's case, and upon that review his staff reported there was one witness who testified that Jack was killed without provocation.

"I'm not going to change my mind," said Keechl. "This is good public policy. I feel bad their animals were allowed to kill other animals but nothing is going to change."

Why were Jack and Bella allowed to provoke bigger dogs MR. Mayor? Doesn't your stupid county have a leash law. Jack was not on a leash and was on a PUBLIC SIDEWALK, Jack was breaking the law MR. Mayor.  And why won't you meet with the Lipskys and listen to their version of what happened? By Susan Salameh's own admission HER DOG RAN AT BRANDI. Running at another animal is PROVOCATION!!!!! Brandi couldn't run as she was on a leash so she DEFENDED HERSELF!!!!

Contact Mayor Keechl  by email kkeechl@broward.org  or call (954) 357-7004 and let him know WHY HIS POLICY IS WRONG. That YOU SUPPORT BRANDI & GIGI  and that they were PROVOKED.

Very sad situations. Jan worries about walking us. More than once a smaller dog has charged us and gotten us all upset. A dachshund was particularly aggressive. One day it ran up behind us and raced around barking and threatening us. A kid started up the street after him, went back and then came running. And here came his dad with a baseball bat. You know the bat wasn't for their dog. The kid must have said we were threatening their dog, but we were all restrained on leashes, barking and wanting to go after him. We DO have a leash law here. It was the last time the dachshund was ever loose! Something like this scares Jan because if something happened ....
