Although mama follows me into the garden to make sure my...calling cards....are properly healthy. It's so embarrassing.

Just between you and I it takes me a while to find the pawfect spot as well.
I recommend you watch your kitty siblings in the litter box ... you can learn that stink eye they have when they want privacy and us humans are too dense to figure it out!
