Flowers on Friday

(Pictures from November 2019)  Mom loves the Forsythia and wishes we had more. It has pretty yellow flowers in the Spring and it is one of our first plants to flower, sometimes as early as January. Then green leaves in the summer, yellow leaves in the fall. True it's just a collection of sticks in the Winter but the rest of the year it earns it's keep.

The Mexican Tarragon is another plant with yellow flowers, it starts blooming in the Fall and depending on how cold our winter is sometimes blooms all winter too. ~ATCAD

I've found some plants in our yard that are new to me, and lucky for me, I have a master gardener as a friend!
We've been planting native Michigan plants in the yard, and will slowly remove the invasive and non-native plants. But on their own, native plants are showing up my themselves, which is really cool.

I grew up in NJ where forsythia was always the first sign of spring. Sadly they didn't have much in Austin and there are no forsythia bushes here in Northern California!

We love seeing forsythia bloom here too but it only bloomed a few weeks ago. How great it must be to see all those beautiful yellow blossoms in January!

I had a couple of forsythias here, but one very cold winter ruined them. Tried with new bushes but they didn't like our poor sandy soil...so we have none. But there are plenty around here and they are just finishing their pretty golden show.

Yours looks quite large!
