Long Necked Geese

Picture A of Canadian Geese

Picture B of Canadian Geese

We got a kick out of LouLou's comment.

I have to ask…are those really geese or are they a special breed of duck. They appear so ducky-looking. I thought geese had longer necks. But whichever they are, they are beautiful and so lovely to have a pond on which they can land and swim and breed. Lovely walk with Mandog.

At first we were a bit baffled as the Geese do have very long necks, then we looked at the pictures and understood what LouLou meant.  Both Pictures A & B were taken on the same day and are of the same pair of geese, but when they are on land in picture A their necks look much longer. We hope some of our photographer friends can explain this or maybe we need some of our bird experts to weigh in. But yes LouLou we promise they are Canadian Geese. MOL & BOL not only do geese have longer necks than ducks they are way bigger. ~ATCAD

Maybe they have a slinky styled neck...LOL! Just kidding.
I do think when they are upright, they hold their necks and head higher than when they are sitting or swimming. There was no explanation in my bird books.

Those geese are pretty cool!
I do not often see geese, just the ducks that drop by from time to time :)

We can see how Lou Lou could think the Canada Geese aren't very big. Without anything else in the picture for a size comparison you can't really tell how big they are. We do think they stretch their necks higher when walking around on the ground though.
