Parent Involvement in Education by Kathleen Cotton and Karen Reed Wikelund
The research overwhelmingly demonstrates that parent involvement in children's learning is positively related to achievement. Further, the research shows that the more intensively parents are involved in their children's learning, the more beneficial are the achievement effects. This holds true for all types of parent involvement in children's learning and for all types and ages of students.
Most intelligent people would garner from this that we need to encourage parents to be more involved in their children's education.

We had a lot of this available to us back when I was a public school teacher. It was soooo hard to get parental support where I worked. But when you were successful, you saw such dramatic improvements in the child. And then you read about districts who actively shut out parents from the process and wonder what on earth they think they are doing.
My children attended public school for awhile and they had some great teachers. One of the best actively encouraged parental involvement and she was a joy to be around. She was a real blessing to all her students and their parents. Her class always outperformed the other classes for the same grade on test.
