Slap on the wrist for substitute teacher that has sex with 17 year old

A former substitute teacher who became pregnant during an affair with a 17-year-old high school football captain was sentenced on Tuesday to three days in jail and five years of probation.

Christine Scarlett, 40, pleaded guilty May 11 to five felony charges - three counts of sexual battery and two counts of disseminating obscene materials to a juvenile. The charges carried a potential 17 years in prison.

Jeez a 17 year old boy has consensual oral sex with a teenage girl and he gets 10 years. A 40 year old substitute teacher has sex with a 17 year old boy and she gets a slap on the wrist. Oh BTW the 17 year old boy the teacher had sex with was brain damaged.

The student and his mother explained in court that he was unable to think through what was happening with the teacher because he had suffered brain damage at birth. His mother told the judge that she met with Scarlett at a school conference, explained her son's mental limitations and had hoped the teacher would be helpful.

The student read a prepared statement in which he referred to the past four years as a nightmare for his family.

"You should have been helping me, because you were my teacher," he said, addressing Scarlett. "You knew I had brain problems, and you were so much older than I was."

Where is the logic in sending a young man who had a promising future ahead of him to jail for 10 years for having oral sex with a young woman only a few years younger then him, with HER CONSENT, when a 40 year old woman gets a slap on the wrist for having sex (and getting pg) with a brain damaged teen 23 years younger then her?

The Genarlow Wilson Saga

--The case of Genarlow Wilson, now serving a 10-year mandatory prison sentence for having oral sex with a 15-year-old girl as a teen, is just the latest to make the state's attorney general the target of protests.

Democrat Thurbert Baker is Georgia's top black elected official, but he has repeatedly found himself at odds with black leaders and his own party.

But Baker says the law is the law.

I am all for law and order, but this was a SUPID LAW and even the judge thinks Gernalow Wilson's sentence was a miscarriage of justice. He needs to be released now.

What 5th graders do when they are unsupervised in the classroom

Five fifth-graders were arrested Tuesday, four of them accused of having sex in an unsupervised classroom.

Students shouldn't be left unsupervised?

"It's not clear how long they were left alone but speculation is that it was about 15 minutes," Buckley said. "When no teacher showed up, the four began to have sex in the classroom with the other elementary students in the classroom with them."

A Troy Middle School Student Will Be Home Schooled Instead of Being Expelled for Gun Possession.

Technically he is doing public school at home, I REALLY wish they wouldn't refer to it as homeschooling. Homeschooling is not a punishment and it annoys the snot out of me that this article implies that it is.

I am still trying to figure out what he did that warranted being expelled.

Ryan Morgan said that on Nov. 15 he and another student heard that a gun had been stashed in a boys bathroom, finding it in a garbage can. Morgan reportedly put the gun in his pocket and then handed it over to an assistant principal about 10 minutes later in a cafeteria.

He found a gun, he turned it in, exactly what was wrong with that and how was anyone endangered by his actions?

When Ryan Morgan arrived home that day, he did not know that “he had been expelled,” she said. He provided “all the information that lead to the arrest of the other boy.” Asked what Morgan should have done, Izzo said he couldn’t discuss the case and instead said he could talk in generalities. A student “should immediately report finding a weapon” to a staff member of the school and “should not simply pick it up,” he said. “They should do the common sense thing. I know 13- and 14-year-olds are young persons. But they have a responsibility not to endanger other people.”

OK, let's talk in generalities what if instead of pocketing the gun and turning it into the assistant principal he had left it where he found it and gone to find the assistant principal to tell him where it was at. What if during this period someone else came along took the gun and shot students with it, would school officials still feel it was the "common sense" thing to do? It's a pity the board didn't display some common sense and reward the boy for doing the "right" thing. I am sure students got the message loud and clear if you find a gun, don't touch it, and don't report it cause you will get expelled. Just pretend like you didn't see it and all will be well or at lest you won't be expelled.
