Caturday Art & Dining with Sandra

For my birthday I was lucky enough to dine at Trilby's

The atmosphere is very elegant and the staff is very professional and friendly. If you are visiting the Mississippi Gulf Coast I highly recommend dining at Trilby's in Ocean Springs. I enjoyed the Tasso Stuffed Fried Shrimp for an appetizer ( Tasso is a type of Cajun Ham) the Trout Trilby with Apple Braised Brussel Sprouts for the entree and  finished up with the Brule Peach Cobbler and an Espresso Martini for Desert.

The evening was spent at the Ocean Springs Night Parade for Mardi Gra, where lots of beads and other goodies were caught. It was a very enjoyable day full of magical memories.

The Best Birthday Ever & The Whiskers Memorial Butterfly Garden

I had a lovely birthday Saturday even though it was very busy. Youngest son took the ACT that morning and had a Team Fusion 364 meeting that afternoon. He was gone most of the day. Course once eldest son left for work that meant that Hubby and I had the house to ourselves (except for the cats, and we put them outside). After a very romantic interlude he took me to eat at Cafe New Orleans. I had the stuffed flounder and Hubby had the Seafood Platter. Both meals were delicious and the whole family enjoyed the leftovers Sunday.

Sunday I was able to spend some time outside working in the Whiskers Memorial Butterfly Garden. Socks and Charybdis came to keep me company. Lazy Scylla chose to stay inside napping. A very nice surprise were the butterflies that were already flitting around the garden.

Even though Hubby worked very hard, he was unable to finish the greenhouse this weekend. This is as far as he got.

Unfortunately he will be unable to work on it again until February 23rd.

Dining with Alasandra ~ The Outback (Thumbs Down)

After a long day shopping for clothes for Hubby and youngest son, Hubby and I decided to take a break and grab some supper. Our first mistake was deciding on The Outback. We had a 15 minute wait to be seated even though there were empty tables throughout the restaurant. To give the waiter credit he kept the bread coming (thankfully, I was starving). Hubby eventually got his salad, but they failed to bring out my soup at the same time. I eventually did get the clam chowder (which was delicious) after Hubby flagged the waiter down to ask where it was at. After another long wait our main course arrived. The Toowoomba Pasta (Grilled jumbo shrimp, crawfish, mushrooms and parmesan with fettuccine and a cream sauce) was worth the wait, but Hubby's steak was woefully undercooked (even for the girl who likes her steak Medium RARE). If we had, had time he would have sent it back. Unfortunately we had to rush in order to pick up our youngest son on time.

Overstreet delights crowd

Since I don't have the time to write the rave review this concert deserves, I'll let you read about it in The Sun Herald. I am just thrilled I got to go. It was hosted at The Hard Rock Cafe in Biloxi. We started the evening off with dinner on the cafe terrace. I enjoyed a delicious Garlic Spinach Burger and french fries. The concert was awesome and I got to hear one of my very favourite songs Riding with Private Malone.

Dining With Alasandra ~Anthony's

I meet a friend at Anthony's for lunch. This is the first time I have been there for lunch and I was pleased with their lunch menu. It not only has tons of delicious things on it, but is reasonably priced. I can't wait to go back so I can work my way through the menu.

Today I had Crawfish Monica with a salad. The salad was lovely (nice and fresh) and had a tangy honey~mustard sauce with it. The Crawfish Monica was delicious, if there weren't so many other delicious treats to choose from I would definitely get it again.

Dining with Alasandra ~Chili's

We went to Chili's for a belated birthday/valentines date. I had the New York Strip, loaded mashed potatoes and some grilled mushrooms and onions. Everything was delicious and the service was great.

We had actually planned to go to The Outback but when we saw the line we decided to go somewhere else.

Dining With Alasandra - Sean's Birthday

Image hosted by Webshots.com

Sean wanted lobster for his birthday so we went to...............................
Mary Mahoney's Old French House
Not only do they have wonderful food, excellent service, and the perfect atmosphere they are dripping history. Built in 1737 the Old French House is one of the oldest homes in America, and while she isn't the southern belle she was before Katrina she is still a wonderful southern dowager. She took what Katrina threw at her and she is still standing and still wonderful. I had HALF LOBSTER GEORGO. It's a masterful combination of diced lobster and shrimp mingled in a cream sauce which is then teased with a hint of brandy and presented en coquille. It was pure ambrosia, the salad had an interesting vinaigrette, the steamed broccoli was delicious. In other words it was the perfect meal and a delightful evening.

Dining With Alasandra

Opus @ Shell Landing
After all the buzz I heard about Opus, I was less then impressed. The oyster poboy I got was ok, but I have had better at B.B's Poboys & Seafood Restaurant. The potato salad made with sour cream was good ( I would love the recipe). The atmosphere was OK, but honestly I would have preferred Bayview Gourmet, same atmosphere better food.

Dining with Alasandra

Outback

The service was excellent. We received our entrees not long after we ordered and while we waited the waitress kept us supplied with bread fresh out of the oven and butter (yum). The sweet tea was actually sweet and the waitress did a wonderful job of keeping my glass full. For an entree I ordered Bronzed Chicken with Corn Cakes. Delicious bronzed chicken breast, served with grilled corn cakes, topped with shrimp and mushrooms in a vermouth cream sauce. I have had it once before and it was as good as I remembered it being. The kids had their usual Mad Max burgher, according to Jonathan it's " a real hamburger". Hubby tried the Alice Springs Chicken which he seemed to enjoy. I highly recommend dropping in for a visit mate.

Dining With Alasandra

in Ocean Springs

The atmosphere is great. A lovely old yellow house with wood and brick floors overlooking the bay. Huge oak trees grace the yard along with several flowers.

Today the coleslaw was bland, the biscuits were burnt and it took forever for the waitress to bring any out, the sweet tea wasn't sweet and the service was slow, apparently a large party had come in just before us. On the other hand my entree Catfish Anthony was delicious. Broiled catfish on a bed of wild rice topped with a crawfish sauce. Yummy!
