Snowball & Happy Hoppy with Alasandra

Our friends at Jan's Funny Farm are having a contest. You can read all about it here. This is our entry even though the only one of us in the photographs is our Mom, Alasandra, so she gets to do the rest of the post (sigh). ~AFSS

Gosh, these pictures are OLD. I was around 4 in the photographs and I am with my very first cat Snowball ( I think Artemisia looks a bit like her), her kittens, and my rabbit Happy Hoppy. I imagine my current crop of cats are happy that I am no longer in charge of naming the pets. When I first saw Snowball she was six weeks old and was curled up in a ball, she certainly looked like a Snowball to me. I got Happy Hoppy for Easter and at Easter my Mom always sang " Here comes Peter Cottontail Hoppin' down the bunny trail. Hippity hoppity Happy Easter Day!, and somehow in my four year old mind that got translated to Happy Hoppy. Snowball lived to be a very old cat and Happy Hoppy grew to be an aged bunny I was a teenager when they went to the bridge, we shared many happy adventures together. Maybe one day I'll tell you about the day Snowball brought a snapping turtle home.......................

First is the handsome Snowball from Cats of Wildcat Woods. They are having a auction to help with his vet bills, Snowball had a urinary blockage. For those of you unfamiliar with the blog Mom Cheryl cares for a number of feral cats (Snowball is one of them), so they also has to deal with trying to medicate a freaked out Snowball. Visit Snowball's Auction Blog here.

Sallie the Romance Puppy is also having an auction to help with her vet bills. She had complications from diabetes and is now blind you can read about Sallie here. And go here to visit Sallie's Auction.

Wildlife Wednesday

The baby geese are all grown up, the family will probably be flying away soon. We feel privileged we were able to watch them grow up.

We realize from some of the comments that lots of you inside cats and doggies have no idea how ferocious geese can be. We assure you you would NOT chase them. More then likely they would chase you. Geese are very scary birds. So while we all enjoy watching them we all maintain a respectful distance from them. And if they happen to come near us we remain respectfully still and wouldn't think of raising a paw to them.  If they are acting hissy (yes geese hiss) we would run as fast as we possibly could, even Mommy would run from them.

In fact there are lots of birds that can hurt/kill cats and dogs owls, eagles, etc.

Even mockingbirds, woodpeckers and bluejays can inflect damage. We will tell you the story of Snowball the cat, Sir Lass the doggie and a bluejay.

Once upon a time a long time ago ............... Mommy had a solid white cat named Snowball when she was a little girl and a Border Collie named Sir Lass. This bad bluejay tormented Snowball horribly and pecked her behind the ear so much she had a bald spot. She spent most of her time hiding under the slide from the bluejay but one day when she was walking to Mommy the bad bluejay was dive bombing her and Sir Lass caught it and killed it (yes doggies can kill birds). He was very proud of himself for protecting Snowball and carried his prize around for days until Grandpa took it away from him.

Tallulah Skye on Thursday

They are finally letting me do a post, I am very new at this so I hope I do OK. I guess I should tell you a bit about me. I am at least 30 years old and Mommy's Grandma Agnes made me for her. I spend most of my time in the bedroom napping.

Today I will tell you a silly story about Mommy's first cat. She was half Persian and had beautiful long white hair and green eyes, her name was Snowball. When it was cold outside Snowball would come in the house and stay in the bathroom in front of the wall heater. See back in the old days they didn't have central heat and air like they do now. And when she was thirsty she would jump in the bath tub and get a drink of water cause the faucet leaked. So one day Mommy was taking a bath in the bath tub (they didn't have showers back in the old days either) and Snowball went to jump in. You should have seen the contortions Snowball did once she realized the tub was full of water. Somehow she managed to twist around in mid air so she didn't land in the tub full of water, but it was very amusing.

RIP Handsome Snowball

Snowball from Cats of Wildcat Woods has gone to the Rainbow Bridge. We know Mrs Cheri and the rest of his family miss him a lot so if you get a chance to go by and pay your respects. They did a lovely tribute post for him.

Feel free to use the graphic if you would like. ~ATCAD

Tallulah Tuesday

It turned COLD here, it even snowed at Grandma's house in Central Mississippi, so Charybdis decided to spend the day snuggling with me. I told her a funny story about Mommy's first puppy Sir Lass.

Sir Lass was a Border Collie. Did you know dogs can catch birds? See there was this pair of blue jays a male and female and they tormented Mommy's cat Snowball. They pecked her behind the ear every time she was outside in the spring and summer. She had a big bald spot behind her ear they pecked her there so much but they never paid any attention to Sir Lass. So one day when they were tormenting Snowball, Sir Lass jumped way up in the air and caught the male bird in the air and deaded him good. He was so proud of catching a bird that he carried the deaded bird around for weeks until the Grandpa took it away from him.

Requiem for Whiskers

Whiskers

Whiskers left us a year ago today. My heart is sad that he is no longer with me but I hope he is having a wonderful time with Snowball, Dingo and Squalling Baby. And one day I hope we are all together again. Whiskers you will always be a part of my heart. I miss you my darling boy. For those of you unfamiliar with it you will find the poem Rainbow Bridge below.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.

There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together

Tuiren Tuesday

I am very worried about Socks, he had to go to a specialty vet in Louisianan, and they kept him over night. I sure hope he gets to come home today.

I am thinking about him and crossing my paws for him, I hopes you will too. And healing purrs would be much appreciated.

It was so hot yesterday Mommy gave me some ice.

I loves ice.

Mommy said she ate something called snowballs when she was little and my ice is kinda like a snowball.

I just know it is refreshing.

What Mom, oh yes everyone thanks for coming to Socks' birthday party yesterday. We are very sorry Socks had to leave during the party to go to the vet.

Now I has to get back to my ice.

Would you like to come eat ice with me? There is plenty to share.
