Wildlife Wednesday

We love the Canadian Geese that visit our pond every Spring.

We always look to see if Mommy Goose is sitting on her nest.

Do you see her?Mommy says the easiest way for humans to spot her is to look for the white streak, the rest of her blends in with the pine tree and dirt on the island. She is well camouflaged there.

We were worried her nest got washed out. We saw her sitting on the nest and then we had torrential rain and then when it finally stopped raining she wasn't sitting on the nest and was nowhere around.

Eventually she and Mr Gander came back with goslings.

This is Mr. Gander he stays around while Mrs Goose is nesting and guards her.  Mommy thinks the goslings hatched the day of the storm and that they found somewhere better protected from the elements to spend the time of Torrential Downpours. ~ATCAD

I love the geese too, though am not ready to see so many around the city now -- signifying summer's end and the beginning of their return from more northerly areas. Sometimes they fly so low overhead that you can hear their wings beat. :-)

We see lots and lots of Canadian Geese 'round here, and love those wee goslings, while Mama and Papa guard them carefully. Adults sometimes fly up to the top of our office building, and honk honk HONK from up there!

Yeah, that white spot makes her stand right out. Must have some other value. Mebbe thats what the goslings see well.

We have lots of Canada Geese around here, and there is a common nesting area nearby...it can get rather noisy back there, sometimes! Soon we will see large 'v' formations overhead along with much honking.
